Raja Krishna Menon's Chef had a dismal first Friday, earning less than Rs1 crore nett. The film, starring Saif Ali Khan, Svar Kamble and Padmapriya, is the lowest earning major feature of 2017. The film has not managed to reach even the poor first Friday numbers of Guest Iin London (Rs1.17 crore nett) and Noor (Rs1.23 crore nett).
Even if Chef's earnings double during the weekend, the film will still stand with dismal figures.
The film, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vikram Malhotra, Janani Ravichandran and Menon himself, is adapted from Jon Favreau’s Hollywood film of the same name.
The other releases of the week — 2016 The End, Call For Fun, Muavza Zameen Ka Paisa, and Raktshar, among others, were washouts. All of them put together failed to gather Rs1 crore nett at the box office.
Judwaa 2, however, held strong ground on its second Friday. The film, released on 29 September, earned approximately Rs4 crore yesterday. This brings its total earnings to Rs99.25 crore nett, very close to the Rs100 crore mark.
Directed by David Dhawan, Judwaa 2 is a remake of Dhawan's own 1997 film Judwaa, in which Salman Khan played the lead roles. Judwaa 2 stars Varun Dhawan, Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandes, and is presented by Fox Star Studios and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
This is the first time Varun Dhawan is seen playing a double role as he brings back the iconic characters Raja and Prem, portrayed by Khan in Judwaa.
