Two singletons Irrfan Khan's Yogi and Parvathy's Jaya meet on an online forum and don't quite hit it off. Instead, they accompany each other as they go back to find their past partners in Tanuja Chandra's unconventional rom-com, Qarib Qarib Singlle.
The title refers to the lead characters who have tried to find love for a long time now. In the trailer, Yogi tells Jaya that he was in love thrice before. Jaya asks if they're still in touch and Yogi asks if she'd like to come along. And apparently her answer is yes, as Yogi and Jaya are on an 'exes' road trip that takes them to several locations in north India from Rajasthan, Delhi, to Rishikesh and Gangtok.
The trailer shows them travelling in taxis, at airports and railway stations as they figure out the love quotient in their lives and grow closer instead. Qarib Qarib Singlle was shot on the 'Fairy Queen', the oldest running steam engine from 1855 in the country.
Malayalam actress Parvathy is making her Hindi film debut and matches toe to toe with the exuberant Irrfan Khan, who played a similar type of character earlier this year in Hindi Medium.
Meanwhile, Chandra returns to directing after 11 years; her last film was Hope And A Little Sugar (2006) and had previously directed Sangharsh (1999) and Dushman (1998). The story is by Tanuja's mother Kamna Chandra who is credited to have written Prem Rog (1982) and Chandni (1989).
Qarib Qarib Singlle, produced by Zee Studios, Sutapa Sikdar, Shailja Kejriwal & Ajay Rai, is due to be released on 10 November. Other film to hit the screens on the same day are Anurag Kashyap's Mukkabaaz and Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, starring Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda.
