The first trailer for Abhay Chopra's remake of the 1969 Yash Chopra thriller, Ittefaq, is out. Co-produced by Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment, the film stars Akshaye Khanna, Sonakshi Sinha and Sidharth Malhotra in the key roles.
Set in the duration of one night, the film focuses on two separate versions of the murders that happen. While Vikram (Malhotra) is accused of killing his own wife, he maintains he was caught in an accident and sought help from Maya (Sinha). On the other hand, Maya maintains that Vikram killed her husband and forced her to keep him safe. Meanwhile, the inspector Dev (Khanna) seeks to sift through the stories to get to the truth.
While the trailer offers the promise of showing Malhotra and Sinha in very different roles, the actors fail to deliver impactful performances. Khanna carries some remnants of his Mom (2017) role, and manages to make the most as the detective chasing the truth. It remains to be seen if Ittefaq can manage to generate the same buzz its predecessor did on its release.
The trailer shies away from protecting any spoilers, which is surprising considering it is a murder mystery. The end spoiler of 'Uss raat wahaan koi aur bhi tha' (That night there was someone else there) is a dampener as it points to a possible third killer in the story.
Ittefaq is based on the 1969 Yash Chopra thriller of the same name. The film is set to be released on 3 November.
