Box office: Over 50% drop in Judwaa 2 earnings on first Tuesday


The film, starring Varun Dhawan earned Rs7.5 crore nett on Tuesday, 3 October, taking the total to Rs83.75 crore nett.

Though Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 saw a drop of more than 50% earnings on its first Tuesday, 3 October, and the film bagged a reasonable Rs7.50 crore approximately. The Monday collection was at Rs18 crore nett. The films has so far made Rs83.75 crore nett. 

Surprisingly, Judwaa 2 is, slowly but steadily, pacing towards the success that Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha made at the box office as the most successful Hindi film this year. The latter bagged a total of Rs132.07 crore nett. 

Made at an estimated budget of Rs80 crore, the film was released in 3,500 screens in India.  As per a trade source, “Fox Star India has got the theatrical rights for both Indian and overseas distribution. The satellite rights have been sold for approximately Rs31 crore, while Amazon Prime has obtained the digital rights for Rs9 crore.”

Judwaa 2 has so far had a good run at the box office, but it will need to make a total of around Rs120-130 crore for the distributors to make substantial gains. 

As for the upcoming weekend, Saif Ali Khan’s Chef will be released on Friday, 6 October, post which, it will be interesting to see how Judwaa 2 fares in its second week.
