Akshay Kumar fans were in for a surprise with the announcement that Padman, directed by R Balki, will be released on Republic Day i.e. 26 January 2018. The film was previously set to be released on 13 April 2018.
Kumar made the announcement on Twitter: “Not all superheroes come with capes! Bringing you the true story of a real superhero, #Padman this Republic Day - 26th January, 2018!”

This news also points to some complication since Kumar's hugely awaited 2.0, which features Rajinikanth in the lead, will be released in the same week on 25 January 2018.
The release of two films together that the same actor is a rare occurrence at the box office and might act unfavourably for the producers of both films. Therefore, it wouldn't be a surprise if the makers of 2.0 change their release date.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala, while talking to Indian Express, has given hints at the posponement of 2.0 release, “Looks like a delay with the VFX. The shooting has been done though with Amy Jackson recently wrapping up a song. Now that the audio launch was successful, the news will not seem very negative. And also they’ll get more time to space out the teaser and trailer launch.” He also added that 2.0 might try to make the most of the summer vacations, just like Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) did.
So far, there hasn’t been any formal announcement of a change in 2.0 release.
