Box office: Golmaal Again bags Rs135 crore nett in first week


Director Rohit Shetty's spooky comedy surpassed Judwaa 2 to emerge as the highest grossing Hindi film of 2017.

Golmaal Again continued its impressive run at the box office as it garnered Rs135 crore nett in its first week, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film had a good opening weekend, bagging Rs87.10 crore nett, and the numbers were good in the week as Golmaal Again made Rs47.5 crore nett from Monday to Thursday (23-26 October).

Having made Rs135 crore nett, Golmaaal has surpassed Judwaa 2 as the highest earning Hindi film of 2017 so far. Varun Dhawan’s comic caper that had released on 29 September has made Rs132.50 crore nett.

Golmaal Again was released across 3,500 screens in India and has been made at an estimated budget of Rs130 crore. With no studio involved, Golmaal Again has already recovered more than half of its cost. As per trade sources, Golmaal Again has fetched Rs52.5 crore from satellite rights, Rs10 crore from digital (Amazon) and Rs8 crore through music rights.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan production Secret Superstar had a fairly decent first week business at Rs41.15 crore nett.

Secret Superstar had released a day earlier, on 19 October. Secret Superstar collections dropped over the week, and it collected Rs10.4 crore nett from Monday to Thursday. Distributed by Zee Studios, the film’s estimated budget (including prints and advertisement but excluding Aamir Khan’s fees) is said to be around Rs24 crore. The was released across 1,600 screens in India.

With no big release today (27 October), Golmaal Again will hope to rake in more moolah over this weekend, while Secret Superstar will hope to touch the Rs50-crore mark.
