Tumhari Sulu song 'Hawa Hawai 2.0' is more peppy than Sridevi’s original

In May this year the makers of Tumhari Sulu announced that their film would include a remake of  Sridevi’s 'Hawa Hawai' song from Mr India (1987). The original song was written by Javed Akhtar and Laxmikant-Pyarelal had scored the tune. Five months later, T-Series has launched the remake, calling it 'Hawa Hawai 2.0'.

Music director Tanishk Bagchi deserves credit for retaining the original vocals of Kavita Krishnamurthy and just adding a little rap. The rap vocals by Shashaa Tirupati, though, are not drilled into the remake and synch nicely with the track.

Bagchi has also added a more peppy, vibrant tune to the original  The visuals have Sulochana aka RJ Sulu (Vidya) and her colleagues partying and, in keeping with the setting, Bagchi has delivered a great party track.

The lone disappointment, however, is Vidya's melodramatic expressions. Dancing has never been her forte, but the actress goes overboard here in her euphoria. Her dramatic expressions seem pretentious. We also see her slyly spilling her champagne, suggesting that Sulu is not much of a drinker. But Vidya scores with her winks, little jigs, and booty shakes, and her infectious energy makes her the Hawa Hawai at this office party.

The choreography and visuals do not match up to the original, but the remake is certainly more peppy and vibrant.
