A vulgar remark made casually may sound funny in private, but one ought to be extra careful with every word when on camera.
Veteran journalist Vinod Dua is miffed with actor Akshay Kumar for making a silly, sexist remark at his daughter Mallika during the shooting of a reality TV show.
Akshay Kumar and Mallika Dua are judges on the Star Plus show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Impressed by a contestant impersonating prime minister Narendra Modi, Akshay Kumar gave a nod of approval by ringing a bell, which is part of the show. The Toilet: Ek Prem Katha star then urged his colleague to do the honours, "Mallikaji aap bell bajao, mai aapko bajata hoon.”
The comment, though made in a light-hearted manner, failed to amuse Vinod Dua who slammed the actor by posting a clip of the offensive remark on his Facebook page.
“Mallikaji aap bell bajao, mai aapko bajata hoon. This is Akshay Kumar to his coworker Mallika Dua on the sets of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge," wrote Dua.
Dua later told the IANS news agency, “I don't expect an apology from Star Plus as they have not aired this episode. But I expect an apology from this fellow [Akshay Kumar]."
Mallika Dua wasn’t as scathing as her father, but subtly disapproved of Akshay Kumar's humour.
It may be recalled that it was reported a few days ago that filmmaker and TV comedian Sajid Khan and actor Shreyas Talpade will join Akshay Kumar as judges in the second phase of the show with Dua, Zakir Khan and Hussain Dalal making way for them.
