'Ittefaq Se' song: Sonakshi Sinha, Sidharth Malhotra sizzle in catchy 'Raat Baaki' remix

Tanishk Bagchi has remixed the Bappi Lahiri classic from Namak Halaal (1982) to emphasize the story of one night in Ittefaq.

Retro continues to rule Hindi cinema music. After the recent remake of 'Tamma Tamma Loge' in Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) and the song from Ishq (1997) in Golmaal Again (2017), it is Ittefaq starring Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna that brings in the retro vibe.

The song 'Ittefaq Se' was released by the makers of the film on Twitter today. Sung by Jubin Nautiyal and Nikita Gandhi, the song is a remix of the superhit Bappi Lahiri composition, 'Raat Baaki', from Prakash Mehra's Namak Halaal (1982), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Smita Patil.

The new version takes off from the second stanza of Lahiri's original composition, bringing a sudden mysteriousness to the track. Both Nautiyal and Gandhi deliver a decent cover of the original which had the legendary voices of Lahiri himself and Asha Bhosle.

Shot stylishly with neon lights and darkness shading the protagonists Malhotra, Sinha and Khanna, the song carries a strong undertone of mystery and darkness. Malhotra and Sinha bring in the smoulder to add to the tension in the song, while Khanna adds some swagger as the cop investigating the truth.

As far as the composition goes, Bagchi has stuck to the original tune but slowed the tempo. The composer has also added a signature whistle that builds an eerie atmosphere. With its techno beats and whistle, the song is hummable and plays to the theme of the film that takes place on one night.

Ittefaq, directed by Abhay Chopra, is a remake of the 1969 Yash Chopra thriller of the same name. The film is co-produced by Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment.
