Rajinikanth congratulates Mersal team

Superstar Rajinikanth has congratulated the team of Vijay-starrer Mersal for the film.

Interestingly, Rajinikanth's comments come at a time when there were questions being asked as to why the superstar was keeping mum when the BJP's  demand for the removal of some dialogues in the film had triggered a huge controversy. The general view among the masses is that the BJP's demand for the removal of certain dialogues that criticise goverenment decisions of demonetisation and GST (Goods and Service tax) goes against the right to freedom of speech and expression guaranteed by the constitution.

Rajinikanth took to Twitter to register his thoughts on the issue.

In a measured tweet, he said, "Important topic addressed... Well done !!! Congratulations team #Mersal"

Although the actor said "important topic", he did not point out which topic he was referring to. It may be recalled that the BJP has taken exception to dialogues on GST and on demonetisation in the film and has sought the removal of dialogues pertaining to both topics.

Rajinikanth's response gladdened fans' hearts and they were quick to jump to his defence, asking those who had raised questions about why the superstar had not reacted to the controversy. However, the actor's critics and the general public dismissed his reaction as being too little, too late.
