Box office: Secret Superstar earns Rs4.50 crore on opening day

The film will face a tough challenge from Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again, which hit the screens today.

The Aamir Khan-produced Secret Superstar did not have a great opening at the box office in India on its first day, 19 October. The film made Rs4.50 crore approximately on the day, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film has been released on 1,750 screens across the country.

Secret Superstar, which stars Zaira Wasim in the lead, fared decently in metros like Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore, but suffered at the smaller centres. This is because the film does not cater to mass audiences despite Khan’s presence. Also, the collections may have been affected on account of Laxmi Pujan as many people are busy on the day with rituals and celebrations.

Thankfully for the producers, Secret Superstar has received positive reviews and good word-of-mouth publicity from the first-day audiences. With three more holidays lined up, the film stands a chance of improving on its earnings. The film's low budget is also expected to help its cause.

However, it will face a tough battle from today as the commercial caper Golmaal Again has hit theatres. Initial reports indicate that the Rohit Shetty film is all set to take a positive opening at the box office.
