Box office: Chef has poor first week, Judwaa 2 crosses Rs120 crore nett

Saif Ali Khan's Chef bagged a paltry Rs5 crore nett in its first week, while Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 bagged Rs26.25 crore in its second week.

Saif Ali Khan’s poor run at the box office continues with his latest release Chef tanking at the box office. The film, directed by Raja Krishna Menon, made only Rs5 crore nett.

Chef has the ignominy of being one of the worst box office duds of 2017. Chef has marginally scored more than Indu Sarkar and Hind Ka Napak Ko Jawab: MSG 2, which bagged Rs4.39 crore nett and Rs4.29 crore nett, respectively. Haseena Parkar got bad reviews, but it still fetched more than Chef at Rs6.38 crore nett in its first week.

The estimated budget of Chef is Rs30 crore and it was released across 1,570 screens in India. Chef was doomed after poor weekend collections and earned Rs1.65 crore on weekdays, reflecting how the film had failed to find any takers.

Meanwhile, Judwaa 2 bagged Rs26.25 crore in its second week, thereby taking its total so far to Rs121.20 crore nett.

There are no big release lined up this Friday (13 October) and with Chef tanking, Judwaa 2 looks good to equal the collection of Akshay Kumar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha as the highest grossing Hindi film of the year. Toilet had made Rs132.07 crore nett.
