Masaba Gupta: I’m the illegitimate product of two most legitimate personalities you'll find

Actor Neena Gupta's daughter, who was criticised for supporting the ban on firecrackers, gave a fitting reply to abusive trolls.

Fashion designer Masaba Gupta was subject to nasty abuse from trolls with some unruly users attacking her parents. The abuse followed after Masaba voiced her support for the Supreme Court of India’s decision to ban the use of firecrackers in Delhi on Diwali this year.

Masaba is the love child of  former West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards and noted TV and film actress Neena Gupta. The personal abuse, though, didn’t affect Masaba, who posted a heartfelt note on her Instagram account, giving a fitting reply to her trolls.

“By calling me names like ‘bastard child’ or illegitimate west Indian’ it only makes my chest swell with pride. I’m the illegitimate product of two of the most legitimate personalities you’ll find and I’ve made the best life, both personally and professionally, out of which I am proud of,” wrote Masaba.

The fashion designer also added that she’s used to such taunts from the time she was 10 years old, but never let them affect her.

“My legitimacy comes from the work I do, and what my contribution to society has been. And you can try but you will not be able to raise a single finger on either of the two,” said Gupta.

“I am a proud Indo-Caribbean girl who doesn’t know how to shrink and crumble in shame of something you or your society cannot handle. It’s just in my ‘illegitimate’ genes,” Masaba signed off.

Actress Anushka Sharma was also mocked for supporting the ban as the firecrackers affected not just humans, but also pet animals.
