Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has announced the title and release date of the superhero film, which is to be directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film, which was tentatively called Dragon before, is now called Brahmastra and the first film in the franchise will be released on 15 August 2019.
Those familiar with the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata will be familiar with the term 'brahmastra', which is said to be the most powerful arrow in the universe. As the name suggests, it is a weapon created by Lord Brahma.
While Dharma Productions has announced that this would be the first film in the franchise, there is no word yet on how many films will be made. Speculation is rife that Brahmastra will be a three-film series that will be distributed by Fox Star Studios.
Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan consists of the main leads, and this will be a maiden collaboration for them. Kapoor, who is good friends with director Mukerji, has previously acted in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) and Wake Up Sid (2009) directed by the latter.
