Farhan Akhtar’s acting debut, The Fakir Of Venice, which was completed back in 2009, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a 'U/A' certificate.

The black comedy, directed by Anand Surapur, is based on a real-life experience of filmmaker Homi Adajania and is due to be released on 5 January 2018.

In The Fakir Of Venice, Farhan Akhtar, as Adi Contractor, and Annu Kapoor, as Abdul Sattar Shaikh, play con men who try to trick the art community in Europe with an art installation project featuring a human being.

The filmmakers, when submitting the film to the CBFC, were concerned about Kapoor’s character, Abdul, a Muslim who poses as a ‘fakir’. However, the film was issued a certificate without any problem.

Produced by October Films, The Fakir Of Venice boasts of a soundtrack by AR Rahman. The producers are planning to release two songs composed by Rahman soon. The film also stars Indo-Canadian model Kamal Sidhu, Italian actress Valentina Carnelutti and German actor Mathieu Carrière.
