Deepak Dobriyal's stock has been on the rise steadily for the past couple of years, and the actor is set to return to the big screen as Kuldip Patwal in the upcoming political thriller, Kuldip Patwal: I Didn't Do It.
The story of Kuldip Patwal: I Didn't Do It revolves around a poor man, Kuldip Patwal (Deepak Dobriyal), who is accused of murdering the chief minister of the state (Parvin Dabas). While the police resort to their usual tactic of torture and threats to get the suspect to confess, he remains steadfast in his claim that he did not do it.
The case soon boils over on to the larger political platform. Gulshan Devaiah plays defence counsel for Patwal while Raima Sen plays the prosecution attorney with a personal connection to the tale.
The trailer is cut quite well and manages to hide as much as it tells. While the film's story is not based on real events, the trailer has enough political ammo to raise the hackles of the extra-judicial authorities running loose at the moment.
Statements like the one made by a politician who dismisses a special investigation team saying, "Bofors, Godhra, 2G, kuchch hua inka? [Bofors, Godhra, 2G, were any of these solved]? In another scene, Devaiah's counsel dismisses the '2G, 3G, CWG' plans as a method to scam people out of money.
The actors certainly deliver. Deepak Dobriyal looks in fine touch as the angry, mysterious, poor man caught in this unfortunate situation. Gulshan Devaiah steps out of the characteristic urban role to play a fiery Punjabi lawyer. Raima Sen and Parvin Dabas add more intrigue as the lawyer and the chief minister, respectively.
The film is produced and directed by Remy Kohli, and is expected to be released in July next year.
