Priyanka Chopra took to social media to publicly congratulate her friend Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement, which was announced on Monday, 27 November.

Chopra shared the official picture of the newly-engaged couple and congratulated them on her Instagram account. She wrote, "Congratulations to my girl @meghanmarkle and Prince Harry!! I’m so happy for you Meg! You deserve the best always..keep smiling that infectious smile."

Chopra is touted to be invited to the royal wedding, which will take place in Spring 2018, along with other high profile celebrities, including Barack and Michelle Obama, David and Victoria Beckham and Serena Williams. The Quantico star is also speculated to be the potential bridesmaid, with others like Markle's other close friend Serena Williams in the running.

Priyanka Chopra and the Suits actress Meghan Markle have been friends ever since they met at the annual ELLE Women in Television dinner a couple of years ago. Their friendship bloomed after Meghan interviewed Chopra for her lifestyle blog.

The two often made appearances on each other's Instagram, where they were seen enjoying a drink or chilling by the pool, before Markle decided to go silent on her social media accounts. Markle's last post in March 2016, before she went off Twitter was to good friend Chopra.

Chopra was often asked about her friend's relationship with the Prince as the media attempted to get some inside dope on Markle and Prince Harry's high profile relationship. Chopra managed wiggle out of it though.

“(Markle) seems happy. I think they look great together. I am happy that she is happy,” she said when Wendy Williams probed her during an interview in March last year. “High-profile relationships are so stressful anyway, so as a friend I wouldn’t like to add on that at all," she added.

The actress has also defended Markle on several occasions. When Williams called Markle "Prince Harry's girlfriend", Chopra, retorted, "Also, Meghan Markle, actress...Suits... her achievements, mmm-hmm, just saying..."

"I don't know if I will get into trouble for this, but I have an opinion. I mean, she's on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend. I'm just saying. I mean, she's an actor, she's an activist, she's a philanthropist. I mean, she does so much more," said Chopra about Markle's Vanity Fair cover which highlighted her relationship with Prince Harry.
