Diljit Dosanjh's stock continues to rise in the Hindi film industry. The actor who made a mark in Abhishek Chaubey's Udta Punjab (2016) returns to the big screen as the former India hockey captain, Sandeep Singh, in the biopic, titled Soorma. Directed by Shaad Ali, the film is produced by Sony Pictures Production.

A teaser poster of the film was released yetsterday, that had the Singh and Dosanjh in the same frame.

The first poster of the film was released on today, 28 November, morning, and captures the ecstasy and fall of the champion player.

The sight of a larger than life Sandeep Singh roaring as he led Indian hockey to the silver medal in the Commonwealth Games of 2010 is contrasted by the sight of the paralyzed player. The smaller image below captures the pain and desolateness of a man who was felled by misfortune at the height of his career.

The tagline of the film aptly reads 'A hockey stick and a bullet. One gave direction to his life, while the other changed it forever', which reveals that the film will focus on the two incidents that defined Sandeep Singh's life and career.

Singh's career was brought to a standstill when he was shot by miscreants in an accident aboard the Shatabdi Express in 2006. The player was on the way to the hockey world cup held in Germany. The accident left Singh paralyzed for 2 years. However, he recovered and led the Indian hockey team to a victory in the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament.

Soorma also stars Angad Bedi, Taapsee Pannu in pivotal roles. The film is expected to be released on 29 June 2018.
