Ranveer Singh, Zoya Akhtar get ready for Gully Boy shoot

The Padmavati release date controversy continues to rage on, but actor Ranveer Singh is already looking ahead to his next film, Gully Boy. Singh will reunite with his Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) director, Zoya Akhtar and will be seen opposite Alia Bhatt for the first time.

Gully Boy is said to look into the inner lives of India’s homegrown rappers and is inspired by Naezy and Divine. 

This past Saturday, 25 November, Singh shared a photo of Gully Boy’s script, written by Akhtar and Reema Kagti, on Twitter. The title page indicates that it is draft 15 of the script. Next to it, a cup of coffee and Nutella with toast can be found. Cheat day, is it? 

Meanwhile, director Zoya Akhtar has been out scouting locations for the shoot. She shared two images of recces on Instagram. In the first image, Akhtar has photographed cinematographer Jay Oza on a Mumbai local. She captioned the photo “Train Song #headingnorth#burbburn #lettherebelight #recce #gullyboy @ozajay #maninblack”. 

Ranveer Singh gave his approval in the comments saying, “Oza my broza” with an emoji of a closed fist. The second photo is a locked door which Akhtar captioned, “No One Home #door #palette#threecolours #locationscout #gullyboy.”

Prior to beginning Gully Boy, Akhtar worked on a 10 episode web series for Amazon Prime starring Shwetha Tripathi, called Made in Heaven. The series will focus on two different types of wedding companies in a competition.

Earlier this month, Cinestaan.com had spoken with set decorater Dhara Jain who informed that the schedule for Gully Boy is for around 72 days. “It will be a massive slum set for Gully Boy and we will need to make it look as real as possible. It’s the only Zoya film so far which is gareeb [poor] (laughs). It’s a very different story,” Jain revealed. Sussane Merwanji is the production designer for the film.
