Director Suresh Triveni's Tumhari Sulu has made Rs17.50 crore nett in the first week of its release. The film, which was made at a low budget of Rs12 crore, had already made up most its cost in the first weekend by earning Rs11.90 crore in three days.

Thus, despite the overall collections being modest, Tumhari Sulu will turn out to be Vidya Balan's first hit in five years. Her last colossal success was Kahaani in 2012, which was made on a budget of only Rs8 crore and went on to bag around Rs59 crore at the box office.

Her last film Begum Jaan (2017) has a lifetime collections of around Rs20 crore. Her other films - 2016's Kahaani 2 (cost: Rs33 crore approximately) and 2015's Hamari Adhuri Kahani (cost: Rs40 crore approximately) earned around Rs32.72 crore and Rs32.9 crore, respectively.

With the next major film, Firangi, starring Kapil Sharma, now to be released on 1 December (to take the spot vacated by Padmavati), Tumhari Sulu will get another week of free run to build up on its profits.

The other release of last Friday, Aksar 2 has earned only Rs5.50 crore in its first week.
