Monsoon Shootout song: 'Andheri Raat' is pallid and does nothing to spice up Amit Kumar's film

Amit Kumar's acclaimed film Monsoon Shootout's will finally make it to the big screen, after a wait of four years. Any good gangster film in Hindi cinema requires a mandatory item song these days. Composers Viveick Rajagopalan and Mayur Narvekar manage to do that job for Amit Kumar's film, but not too impressively.

Sung by Neha Bhasin in the lead, and joined by Aklesh Sutar and Rajiv Sundaresan, 'Andheri Raat' is a thematic composition that provides a sensuous layer to the grimy, wet scenarios in the film.

The song plays out to the moment of reckoning between Vijay Varma's rookie cop, Adi, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui's deadly assassin, Shiva. While Siddiqui's dialogues manage to raise the tempo of the film, the song itself falls flat.

The composition plays on the Mumbai 'tapori' lingo, and the very crude 'Andheri raat mein' is a doff of the hat to one of the more famous double entendres. However, the lyrics by Kartik Krishnan do not have the panache that this song requires. 

Neha Bhasin's vocals do make an impact, but there is little to really perform for. 

Monsoon Shootout is set to be released on 8 December.
