Gulbadan song: Kapil Sharma-Maryam Zakaria’s mujra doesn’t quite provide the kick

Actress Maryam Zakaria’s mujra in Agent Vinod (2012) ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka,’ where she danced with Kareena Kapoor Khan, was an enjoyable number with creative lyrics and music. Even though her latest item number ‘Gulbadan’ from Firangi is also based on the mujra form, it does not look like a duplication of the 2012 song.
However, this does not bode good news since 'Gulbadan' just is an ordinary mujra number that doesn’t quite give you the kick.
The song starts with some impressive harmonium tunes. But dejects with lack of progress ahead. The music isn’t uplifting and the lyrics fall flat.
The only plus point here is singer Mamta Sharma’s smooth and pleasing voice. She is known for the iconic ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ from Dabangg (2010). She surely deserves to be heard more.
It seems the song arrives at an important point. Zakaria looks pretty but the choreography is not up to the mark. Although it is difficult to see Kapil Sharma in a serious role, he has worked well on it. The song also features Rajesh Sharma and Inaamulhaq.
Directed by Rajiev Dhingra, Firangi is all set to be released on 1 December.
