The Hindi film, Gauru: Journey Of Courage, directed by Ramkishan Nandram Choyal has won two awards for performances at the 13th China International Children’s Film Festival.

Ritwik Sahore, best known for his roles in Ferrari Ki Sawaari (2012) and Dangal (2016), won the award for Best Performance by a Child Actor, along with a cash prize of ¥20,000 (Rs1.9 lakh). Singer-actress Ila Arun won the award for Best Performance by an Adult Performer along with a cash prize of ¥20,000 (Rs1.9 lakh).

Set in Rajasthan, the film follows a determined 13-year-old shepherd named Gauru who aims to fulfil his grandmother’s dying wish to see her maternal village once more. The journey to take his ailing grandmother is perilous, almost impossible, as Gauru and his sister aren’t even sure about the exact location of the village.

But defying the wishes and advice of many elders, including his own father, Gauru traverses through a drought to make his grandmother happy again.

Sahore plays the happy-go-lucky Gauru while Ila Arun plays the ailing matriarch. Director Choyal, who was also born in Rajasthan, filmed the entire feature in the state. Made in collaboration with the Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI), the touching film shows the close bond that goes beyond generations.

"We (CFSI) are very happy to receive the awards. It is a proud moment for India. CFSI is committed to making films which are entertaining and message-oriented for children and we shall continue to put in our best in this endeavour," said Shravan Kumar, CEO, Children's Film Society, India.

The 13th China International Children’s Film Festival was held in Guangzhou from 15 to 19 November.
