The postponement of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, which was to be released on 1 December, emboldened the makers to move their film up.

The release of the Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Monsoon Shootout has been advanced to 8 December. The film was earlier scheduled to be released on 15 December.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much talked about Padmavati was to be released on 1 December. But the release has been postponed in the wake of protests and wild threats being held out to the cast and crew.
No major film was scheduled to be released with Padmavati and even the week after as it was expected to capture shows at multiplexes for two weeks at least. Now that its release has been pushed back, the makers of Monsoon Shootout decided to grab the vacant period.
Moving the film up a week also makes sense because another big-budget film, Tiger Zinda Hai, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, is being released on 22 December.
Monsoon Shootout also features Vijay Verma, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Geetanjali Thapa of Trapped (2017) fame, Neeraj Kabi of Ship Of Theseus (2013) and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015) fame, and Sreejita De.
The film has been ready for release for four years now. It was premiered at the Cannes film festival in 2013 where it received positive response.
Monsoon Shootout is Amit Kumar’s directorial debut. The film is about a police officer on his first assignment, when he is forced to decide whether to open fire.
