Twenty-eight artistes from the four South Indian film industries and Hindi cinema in the 1980s celebrated their friendship and brotherhood once again this year.

This was their eighth reunion and the theme this time was deep purple. The two-day reunion took place at an exotic seaside resort in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.

The guests included such stars as Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Bhagyaraj, Jackie Shroff, Rajkumar, Arjun, Suresh, Rahman, Ambika, Radha, Poornima, Ramya Krishnan and Lissy.

They arrived at the resort on the morning of 17 November. At 7pm, the stars came in one by one to the party hall dressed in purple and were each greeted with a brooch of orchids and a tiara of purple and green flowers.

Suhasini and Lissy were the hosts at the event and had ample support from Rajkumar Sethupathy, Poornima Bhagyaraj and Khushboo.

A group photo shoot set off the celebrations. It was a rare sight to see 28 stars all shining in deep purple. This year, as part of the entertainment at the event, melodious Hindi film songs from the 1960s and 1970s were performed by actresses Revathy and Khushboo as solos and by Suresh and Ramya, Sumalatha and Naresh, and, finally, Radhika and Sarath Kumar as duets. Revathy and Khushboo were declared the winners.

There was a ramp walk, first by the women and then by the men. The men's team lead by Telugu star Chiranjeevi was declared the winner.

Singer Sriram sang the songs of some of the assembled stars, including Poonam Dhillon and Jackie Shroff from Hindi cinema and Venkatesh, Suresh and Bhagyaraj from the South. All the artistes narrated interesting anecdotes relating to these songs.

At 6am the next day, the stars drove to a place deeper down for an authentic Tamil breakfast. After that, there were holistic, spiritual and philosophical discussions. On 19 November, the artistes returned to their respective cities and shooting schedules.
