Priyanka Chopra only actress in Forbes list of 100 Most Powerful Women 2017

Actress Priyanka Chopra's rise as the top Indian name in Hollywood continues unabated. The actress has now broken into Forbes list of 100 Most Powerful Women 2017. Chopra ranked 15 in the list of the Most Powerful Women in Entertainment, and 97 on the overall list of 100. German chancellor Angela Merkel took the top spot. Chopra is the only actress to have featured in the Forbes list of 100 Most Powerful Women 2017, while singers Beyonce and Taylor Swift took positions at 50 and 85, respectively.
Chopra is one of the new entrants to the updated list, alongside Ivanka Trump, entrepreneur and daughter of United States president, Donald Trump. Ivanka, who is also a fashion designer, is ranked at 15 on the overall list of 100.
Apart from Chopra, Pepsico chairman Indra Nooyi, ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar, and Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw are the other Indian women on the list.
The Forbes list of 100 Most Powerful Women 2017 is drawn up from a list of seven power bases which include billionaires, finance, media, politics, philanthropists/NGOs and technology.
Moira Forbes, executive vice-president of Forbes Media said in a quote to the United Kingdom daily, The Guardian, "Whether leading multibillion-dollar companies, governing countries, transforming an industry, or setting the agenda on critical issues of our time, collectively these women are making a lasting impact on our global footprint."
Apart from her popularity as the leading star of the ABC television series, Quantico, Chopra has broken into the Hollywood elite with the recent, Baywatch film. The actress is also known for her role as the UNICEF Global Goodwill ambassador. Chopra recently earned plaudits for her appearance at the United Nations Assembly where she spoke against violence perpetrated against children and women across the world.
Forbes magazine described the actress as 'arguably the most successful Bollywood actor to cross over to Hollywood.' The bio also went on to describe Chopra as 'one of TV's highest earning actresses and the first Indian actor to lead a drama series on American television'.
Earlier in the year, Chopra was ranked 7th on Forbes list of Bollywood's Top 10 Highest Paid Stars male and female. Chopra, alongside her Bajirao Mastani co-star, Deepika Padukone, were the only female stars to make it to the list.
Chopra is currently in New York and shooting for the third season of her series, Quantico. The actress also has two films, A Kid Like Jake and Isn't It Romantic? ready to be released next year. In addition, Chopra's Purple Pebble Productions is set to produce a series based on the life of Madhuri Dixit.
