Fans of superstar Amitabh Bachchan were left worried yesterday after reading about the veteran actor being involved in a car accident in Kolkata when one of the wheels of the car he was travelling in came off. The news was reported by the government-run news agency Press Trust of India (PTI). Later in the evening, Bachchan denied that any such incident had taken place.

PTI had quoted an official from the secretariat who had confirmed that such a incident had happened. “The wheel on the left rear-end of the Mercedes carrying Bachchan got detached from the vehicle on Dufferin Road when he was going to the airport to catch a flight for Mumbai on Saturday morning," said the senior official at the secretariat.

Early today (17 November), Bachchan also posted a Hindi poem by a fan mocking how people cook up stories.

Bachchan was in Kolkata to attend the Kolkata International Film Festival.
