Monsoon Shootout song 'Pal': Arijit Singh steals a moment for love in the thriller

Composed by Rochak Kohli with Sumanth Vadhera providing the lyrics, the song captures two romantic stories running parallely in the film.

The trailer of Amit Kumar's much delayed Monsoon Shootout might seem like a thrilling noir-ride, but the first song from the film is a lovely romantic ode sung by Arijit Singh. The song, titled 'Pal', was released on Thursday, 26 November, by the film's makers.

The song captures two romantic stories running parallely in the film. The first belong's to Nawazuddin Siddiqui's murderous Shiva, who finds love with a prostitute, but is always on the run.

The other story belongs to Adi, played by Vijay Varma. Adi is the rookie cop on Shiva's tail, and has his own romantic history with Anu (Geetanjali Thapa). As the film unravels, it is these moments of love that define the decisions of the two lead characters.

Rochak Kohli's composition carries an underlay of a popular template, moulded to a very pleasing melody.

The lyrics by Sumant Vadhera play on the theme of time and its fleeting nature, and deliver the message effectively. In all, this is a surprisingly sweet composition placed in what looks to be a grim thriller.

Besides Siddiqui, Thapa and Varma, Monsoon Shootout also stars Neeraj Kabi and Tannishtha Chatterjee in the primary roles.

The film was premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and even earned a nomination for Amit Kumar under Golden Camera category.

Monsoon Shootout is set to be released on 15 December.

Correction, 20 June 2019: The actor Vijay Varma's surname was misspelt as Varma in an earlier version of the report.
