Real life pair Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have earlier shared the screen space in quite a few films, most notably in Mani Ratnam’s Guru (2007). The duo were last seen together in Ratnam’s Raavan (2010).
Looks like the couple will soon be seen together again with a quirky dramedy, to be produced by Phantom Films. Abhishek and Aishwarya have been approached to play the leads in the first time director and writer Sarvesh Mewara’s Gulab Jamun. The duo have reportedly liked the script, according to entertainment portal BollywoodHungama.com.
As per the report, the film was meant to be and all Bachchan affair with Amitabh and Jaya also being approached with roles. However, the latter is said to have declined the offer. Buzz has it that the senior Bachchans were asked to play aged versions of Abhishek and Aiswarya's characters.
The same report quoted a trade source as saying, “It’s a quirky dramedy (drama and comedy), a slice-of-life film which has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan grow into elderly people. But the twist is that they won’t be sporting white hair and looking old. While Abhishek matures and becomes somebody else (the role Amitabh Bachchan has been approached for), Aishwarya becomes an elderly woman (played by another actress). Jaya Bachchan was approached to play an older Ash but she refused.”
The same report also quoted a Phantom official, “Yes, talks are on between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan for Gulab Jamun and that’s all we can say right now.”
Aishwarya is currently working on Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Fanney Khan. Meanwhile, There has been no clarity on Abhishek’s next project with the actor walking out of JP Dutta’s Paltan. There have been murmurs of the actor starring in Bunty Walia’s Left.
Speaking to Cienstaan.com last December, Walia had merely dismissed the news as a rumour.
Abhishek was last seen in Housefull 3 (2016).
