Come Friday, Indian audiences will witness a slice-of-life tale in first-time director Suresh Triveni's Tumhari Sulu, a story of an ordinary housewife who lands the job of a late-night radio jockey.

But it is not just Sulochana (Vidya Balan) who grabs the opportunity to make a new career. The film marks the directorial debut of Suresh Triveni.

Triveni began his career as a client-servicing agent, then worked as a sales manager, before shifting to making ad films. He directed the extremely popular Mauka Mauka 2015 cricket World Cup campaign for STAR. The success of the campaign brought his company Bubblewrap Films into the limelight.

Now, with Tumhari Sulu, Triveni steps into the world of cinema. The Ranchi-born director spoke to Cinestaan.com ahead of the release of his film, sharing thoughts on the film, his lead star, and more.

He admitted outright that he is a huge Vidya Balan fan and it was a dream come true to direct her in his maiden film. So happy is he that he would not mind if this also turns out to be the last film he directs.

Vidya, however, has been going through a lean phase since Kahaani (2012) and definitely needs a box-office success. But these realities did not deter Triveni. “That [Vidya's lean phase] never occurred to me," he said in his matter-of-fact manner. "Her films may or may not have worked, but Vidya Balan has always been appreciated for her performances."

The director also spoke about how the Hawa Hawai 2.0 remake in his film is a tribute to Sridevi's electrifying track from Mr India (1987).
