After Code 46 (2003), A Mighty Heart (2007) and Trishna (2011), British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom’s next, The Wedding Guest, starring Dev Patel, will also be shot in India.

The director attended the Kolkata International Film Festival being held from 10 to 17 November as part of a delegation from the British Council.

Five of his films — Welcome to Sarajevo (1997), The Claim (2000), The Road to Guantanamo (2006), Trishna (2011), Everyday (2012), On The Road (2016) — are being shown at the festival as part of a retrospective on the UK.

Hollywood trade magazine Variety reported that the film is largely set in India and that Winterbottom has met with actors in Mumbai.

The Wedding Guest will be produced by Revolution Film and Riverstone Pictures. Riverstone was found in 2014 by Deepak Nayar and Nik Bower with the backing of Reliance Entertainment.

The film is due to begin filming early next year.

Patel, last seen in Lion (2016) where he earned his first Oscar nomination for best actor, has been filming in India since his first film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). His upcoming film, Hotel Mumbai (2018), is based on the true stories of the survivors of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in 2008.
