Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's upcoming film, Padmavati is undoubtedly one of the biggest films of the year. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and produced by Viacom18 and Bhansali Productions, it is a grand project. Hollywood studios, Paramount Productions, has now decided to take up the film for overseas distribution.
The news was confirmed by Bhansali Productions' official Twitter handle, which tweeted: 'Proud Movement. Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures to exclusively distribute #Padmavati in all international markets, outside India.'
The film, which will hit theatres on 1 December, will be distributed on the international market exclusively by Paramount Productions.
The studio giant has previously been involved in the distribution of films like Titanic (1997), Forrest Gump (1994) and Interstellar (2014) among others.
Bhansali's film revolves around the legend of Padmavati, the Rajput queen, who was renowned for her intelligence, beauty and valour.
In a statement, Ajit Andhare, chief operating officer, Viacom18 said, "This is a first ever collaboration of this kind with Paramount Pictures releasing a Viacom18 Hindi feature across international markets."
Paramount has had a strategic distribution alliance with Viacom18 since 2011. With Viacom18 co-producing the film alongwith Bhansali Productions, the participation of Paramount offers a greater international presence for the film. "We are breaking new ground with Padmavati, its marketing and release strategy. With Paramount coming on board, we will take the film to a whole new level globally," Andhare said.
Megan Colligan, spokesperson, Paramount Pictures said, "We are thrilled to be partnering with Viacom18 Motion Pictures on this exciting new release. Padmavati has all the makings of a hit film and we are excited to bring Sanjay’s incredible vision to audiences across the international market place."
The film has run into some political trouble due to its subject, however, with the information & broadcasting ministry promising complete support, the film looks set for a big release.
