Buzz has it that Vidya has opted out of Rajinikanth's next Thailaivar 161 to be directed by Kabali (2016) director Pa Ranjith. According to IndianExpress.com, Vidya pulled out due to date issues.

At an event in the city, Vidya was asked about whether she was part of Rajinikanth's next, to which the Begum Jaan actress (2017) had merely replied, "We will know soon".

Born in Mumbai, Vidya's parents hail from Tamil Nadu. Surprisingly, the actress has never done a film in the south film industry. She did feature in the 2003 Malayalam film Kalari Vikraman, but the film never got released.

Post Begum Jaan, Vidya has signed for the T-Series project Tumhari Sulu, where she will be playing a night radio jockey. Tumhari Sulu is directed by Suresh Triveni. Vidya has previously played radio jockey in Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006).

Thalaivar 161 is being produced by Rajinikanth's actor-singer son-in-law Dhanush, under the his banner Wunderbar Films. This is Dhanush's maiden foray into production.
