Even as Shraddha Kapoor prepares for her next release, Half Girlfriend, there has been great interest in seeing how the actress performs in her next film, Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai, in which she will be portraying the title role of Dawood Ibrahim's sister.

The first poster of the film did evoke a lot of surprise, as Kapoor was seen donning an all new avatar. “I told some peple I am doing that film and they were surprised, because I don’t know if people would see me playing the character. So that reaction was very interesting. The reaction to the first poster was overwhelming too. I hope people also react to the teaser in the same way.”

It was evident that some amount of prosthetics and weight gain went into creating her look. Kapoor confessed that the prep for Haseena wasn’t easy, especially her attempt at gaining weight for the role, as her character is seen on the heavier side in her late 30s and 40s.

“I tried to gain weight for this film and everything went only to this area (pointing to her belly). And a little bit here (neck). I was trying to gain weight on my arms, but it just wasn’t happening. I was hoping that I would gain some weight on my face also, but it just didn’t happen. Now, I still have weight here (again pointing her belly) and I need to lose all of it for Saina (her next project),” says Kapoor.

The actress will soon have to start training and preparing for her next project, which is a biopic on the popular badminton player, Saina Nehwal.

But before she takes up that the sports biopic, Kapoor is excited to see how the audience reacts to Haseena, which she thinks is "a very interesting" biopic.

"It was a big challenge (for me). Once you all see the film, you'll see what that lady has actually gone through in her life. We don't know unless we are told that someone can go through these experience — losing their loved ones, people dying right in front of her — her brother, her son... to feel those emotions was a challenging process," she says.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai is slated to release on 14 July.
