Writer-director Umesh Shukla, who was recently announced as the director of 102 Not Out, will also helm the official Hindi remake of the Korean blockbuster Miracle in Cell No 7 (2013). Shukla had earlier written and directed the hit film OMG: Oh My God! (2012).
Miracle in Cell No 7, which stands at number six in the list of highest grossing South Korean films, is a comedy about the heart-warming and extremely close relationship between a mentally challenged man and his young daughter. When he is falsely accused of murder and rape and imprisoned, his fellow inmates help the father and daughter reunite in prison.
The remake will be co-produced by the international production company, Kross Pictures, in collaboration with Indian Film Studios, founded by Utpal Acharya and Ashish Wagh in 2015. Previously, Kross Pictures had produced Ribhu Dasgupta’s Te3n (2016) starring Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan.
Thomas Kim, the CEO of Kross Pictures said in a statement, “It’s a delight to announce the Hindi remake of Miracle in Cell No 7with an acclaimed director like Umesh Shukla, as a fitting follow up to our last film TE3N."
Director Umesh Shukla said about the upcoming project, “We are in the process of finalising the script post which we will be speaking to some leading Hindi film actors for this film. I am excited to be working with reputed producers like Kross Pictures and Indian Film Studios who put content above all else. Miracle in Cell No 7 is a touching, beautiful story and I am lucky to be able to tell it on celluloid for Indian audiences.”
The Kannada film, Pushpaka Vimana, which released earlier in January, is also a remake of the South Korean film.
