Shruti Haasan drops out of Sanghamitra due to 'unavoidable circumstances'

The actress has backed out of Sundar C's period epic after not receiving a 'bound script'.

Actress Shruthi Haasan, who had signed up to play the lead in the huge multilingual project Sangamithra is no longer a part of the film. The actress had recently been part of the film's poster launch at the Cannes film festival on 17 May.

The production house, Sri Thenandal Films, put out a tweet on their official handle saying,  “Due to unavoidable circumstances, we are unable to proceed working with Shruti Haasan in Sangamithra."

Soon after, Shruthi's spokesperson issued an official statement that said, "Shruti has had to unfortunately take a call not to be part of Sangamithra. Knowing it was a massive undertaking and a long commitment spanning over two years, she knew the importance of her training, a comprehensive script and proper date calendar. She hired and started training with one of best combat trainers April onwards to make sure she was ready in time for shoot. Despite her enthusiasm and commitment to Sangamithra, she has had to give the film a miss since she had not received a proper bound script or nor a proper date calendar. She is currently caught up with promoting her film Behen Hogi Teri, prep for Sabash Naidu and her musical associations."

Directed by Sundar C, the film has been billed as one of the biggest projects of south India. The story, sources say, will be set in the eighth century and is about a queen's struggles to protect her kingdom.
