It's been a week since Katrina Kaif joined Instagram, but the welcome messages keep pouring in. After Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Arjun Kapoor, it was the turn of India's international diva Priyanka Chopra to welcome the Tiger Zinda actress. Chopra welcomed Kaif in her inimitable way.
A few days ago, a Hindi trailer of Baywatch went viral online. It had Chopra's character telling Zac Efron, who is dressed in drag, "chal na Katrina".
Chopra used a clip from this dubbed dialogue to welcome Kaif on the image/video sharing application Instagram. The actress, who is at the top, spreading girl love in the industry, wrote: "Finally!! Welcoming the inimitable @katrinakaif to Instagram #chalnaKatrina into the mad world of social! Hope it's a fun adventure! Xoxo love and luck always."
In the original English version, Chopra's character Victoria Leeds refers to Efron as 'Britney', but for the Hindi version, the makers used 'Katrina'.
Chopra had recently disclosed how she had obtained permission from Kaif, who found it amusing. Speaking to India Today Television, Chopra confessed, "When I saw it, I laughed for 20 minutes, it was so funny."
Explaining the reason behind choosing 'Katrina' to replace 'Britney', Chopra said, "I couldn't think of anyone else. Britney is such a huge star. So I had to find a modern day icon. I think Katrina Kaif is a major icon for Hindi cinema and I really really like her."
She added, "This was my idea and I thought that it would be a fun replacement, and Katrina was really cool about it. I texted her before the trailer came out and she was like 'yeah, of course.' So I think she obviously saw the humour in it. I am really glad it has become so popular, it's my girl love homage to Katrina."
Though they’ve never worked together, Kaif had done the popular item number 'Chikni Chameli' in Chopra and Hrithik Roshan's film Agneepath (2012).
Chopra makes her Hollywood debut with Baywatch that is set to be released on 25 May in the USA.
