Akshay Kumar likes to be a real hero in reel life.
After rescuing lakhs of stranded Indians in Airlift, Akshay is rumoured to be making a film on the 1989 Raniganj coal field rescue operation, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.co.in. Airlift was inspired by the story of Kerala-born Kuwaiti businessman Mathunny Mathews.
Akshay is said to have bought the rights to make a film on the historic rescue operation, which was conducted by JS Gill, additional chief mining engineer, who helped save the life of 64 miners.
Gill and his team had drilled a large borehole in the surface. The rescue capsule was forged out of iron and steel and the miners were hauled to safety, one by one, by a makeshift pulley. Gill had put his life on the line, going down the borehole and rescuing all trapped miners.
He was honoured with India’s highest civilian gallantry award Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak (SJRP) for saving the lives of 64 miners, by the President of India.
Akshay's official spokesperson claimed ignorance about the development.
Akshay has earlier acted in Special 26 (2013) and Rustom (2016) that were inspired by true incidents. His next, Padman, too, is said to be based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, inventor of the machine to make low-cost sanitary pads.
