At Rs1,538 crore in worldwide gross collection, Dangal goes past Baahubali 2

After conceding to Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), Aamir Khan’s Dangal (2016) has gone ahead of SS Rajamouli’s epic drama to emerge as the highest grossing Indian film worldwide. Baahubali had initiallly taken the lead, but Dangal’s phenomenal show in China and Taiwan has enabled it to leapfrog ahead of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion's current collection.

Khan's film has regained the top spot with a gross worldwide collection of Rs1,538 crore, whereas Baahubali stands at Rs1,530 crore, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Dangal has so far grossed $158 million (approximately Rs1,020 crore at current exchange rate) in overseas collections (Hindi and Mandarin).  

The China and Taiwan collections alone stand at $123 (approx Rs793 crore) million and $4.72 million (Rs30 crore), respectively. Baahubali 2, which still hasn’t released in China, has grossed $43 million (approximately Rs277 crore) in the overseas market.  

While Dangal has taken the lead in worldwide collections, Baahubali 2 is miles ahead of Dangal in the all languages India collection. While Dangal grossed Rs512 crore (all languages), Baahubali’s gross domestic collection stands at a staggering Rs1,253 crore.

Given how Dangal has scored big in China, Baahubali producers will hope for similar returns. The government of China only allows four Indian films to be screened in their country. Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) had released across 5,000 screens in China, but could only gather $7 million then.

The Baahubali producers intend to showcase the second film in July this year.
