In a major development, the makers of SS Rajamouli’s Telugu movie Magadheera (2009) have gone to court against Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta citing plagiarism. They have seeked an injunction against the release of the film, which is scheduled on 9 June.

As soon as the trailer of the Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon starrer was released, there was a buzz on social media about the film bearing similarity with Magadheera. Those who had seen the Telugu film starring Ram Charan and Kajal Agarwal felt an uncanny resemblance between the two.

The news about the makers of the 2009 movie going to court was shared by trade analyst Ramesh Bala on his Twitter page. He said, “BREAKING: #Maghadheera film makers go to court against #Raabta.. Seek an injunction against the film's release.. Story plagiarism charge..”

He shared another message explaining the issue. “They contend that the Raabta film copied its unique story and plot line in violation of its copyright. The Hyderabad court issued notice and posted the matter to 1st June to decide whether the film must be permitted to release on 9th June,” said the message.

Both films have the concept of two lovers meeting in two different eras. Magadheera was officially remade in Bengali as Yoddha – The Warrior in 2014.
