Veteran British actor, best known for playing James Bond, succumbs to cancer. Kabir Bedi, who acted with Moore, mourned his death.

British actor Roger Moore, best known for his TV series The Saint and playing spy character James Bond, passed away in Switzerland after succumbing to cancer. Moore was 89.
The family issued a statement through Moore’s official Twitter account.

Moore was the third actor to play the iconic character of James Bond after George Lazenby and Sean Connery. Moore was first cast as Bond in the film Live and Let Die (1973). Altogether Moore acted in seven Bond films, most notably Octopussy (1983) of which some portions were shot in India. Moore’s other Bond films included The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981) and A View to Kill (1985).
Apart from television and cinema, Moore was an active UNICEF goodwill ambassador. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for "services to charity". In 2008, the French government appointed Moore a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and the same year he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Kabir Bedi, who played a villain in Octupussy, paid his tribute to Moore via Twitter.
