'Main Tera Boyfriend' song: Sushant's abs lone bright spot in Raabta track

Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon's Raabta has so far hit the right notes with its music. The earlier tracks have largely been appreciated, but the makers have now released a very ordinary song, 'Main Tera Boyfriend'.

One of the reasons for the earlier tracks — 'Ik Vaari Aa', 'Raabta', and 'Sadda Move' — being successful is that they were penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. 'Main Tera Boyfriend', though, is the creation of lyricist Kumaar.

The lyrics are pretty pedestrian. Not even a schoolboy would use such words today.

The original lyrics were penned by Jitendra Raghuvanshi, with Sohrabuddin composing the music for Punjabi pop singer J-Star’s original track 'Na Na Na Na'. Hard-core lovers of Punjabi pop have appreciated the original, but 'Main Tera Boyfriend' is not in keeping with pop standards either.

Buzz has it that music director Pritam refused to recreate 'Na Na Na Na' for Raabta. That explains why T-Series has not credited anyone as the music director. Sourav Roy gets the credit for music programming.

The lyrics have been tweaked slightly, making them sound better than the original, but that doesn’t make either track music to the ears. Perhaps, the music of the Hindi track doesn’t hurt as much as that of the Punjabi one. The Hindi version has a more contemporary pop feel.

Even Arijit Singh's voice can't save the track's the shoddy lyrics and average music. Without being too critical of Singh, let’s just say he is allowed the odd aberration. Neha Kakkar is usually comfortable with such songs, but like Singh, she too is hampered by the mediocre lyrics and music.

Ahmed Khan’s choreography and some of the costumes donned by Kriti Sanon too leave a lot to be desired. Perhaps, the lone bright spot of the track has to be Sushant Singh Rajput flaunting his sculpted body. Usually known for his method acting, Rajput is perhaps trying to discover the archetypal 'Bollywood boyfriend' in him. Sanon has a great body, but dancing looks tough for her.
