Making her first appearance at the prestigious Met Gala (the Oscars of the east coast), Priyanka Chopra was said to be channelling everyone from Carmen Sandiego to Inspector Gadget. Dressed in a trench coat by Ralph Lauren, the outfit was custom made for the star, in keeping with the Rei Kawakubo theme for the gala. The actress looked stunning as she walked down the red carpet.

But while the fashion police gave her a thumbs up, back home in India, comedians and Twitter users couldn’t resist turning Priyanka into a meme just as Rihanna did in 2015 at the Met Gala dressed in Chinese couturier Guo Pei’s yellow creation.

The one-of-a-kind trench coat actually set the record for the longest trail. Chopra arrived with singer-actor Nick Jonas, who was also attired in Ralph Lauren, and posed together on the red carpet. Wearing tall black boots and dangling silver earrings, Priyanka just nailed the look, and won tons of praise from the American media for daring to go different.
