Juhi Chawla: My most vivid memory of Reema Lagoo is from Yes Boss

Veteran actress Reema Lagoo was known as one of the most lovable mothers of mainstream Hindi cinema. She is best known for her acts in Sooraj Barjatya’s blockbusters Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! (1994) and Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999).

But Lagoo became famous for the first time through Mansoor Khan’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which was the launch film of Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. This was the first time that the masses took notice of her as Chawla's character's mother.

Chawla has fond memories of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Lagoo. She went on to star with her later too in Pratibandh (1990), Naajayaz (1995), Deewana Mastana (1997) and Yes Boss (1997).

Reminiscing about her, Chawla said in an official statement, “Strangely, we worked together in the same film QSQT and then in many more films — Naajayaz, Pratibandh, Deewana Mastana. But my most vivid memories are of working with her in Yes Boss, where she played Shah Rukh’s mother.”

Lagoo in Barjatya’s films was a constant. Chawla feels now his films won’t be the same. “I always loved watching her in Sooraj Barjatya films. She was the ideal mom and his films would be incomplete without her,” she added.

Chawla had met Lagoo recently. “It really is shocking. I met her just some weeks ago at an awards function at Raj Bhavan. Oh dear !!! She has to be one of the most beautiful people really. I personally thought she was so pretty with her light eyes and lovely features (sic),” she said.

Rohit Roy is another actor who made his debut in the film in which Lagoo also acted. In fact, the very first shot of his life was with her in the film titled, Jazbaat (1994). “Reema ji played my mother in my first film Jazbaat and my very first shot was with her. It’s almost two decades ago but I can remember the shot, scene and location like it happened yesterday,” said Roy in an official statement.

He also remembered a piece of advice she gave him. “She was definitely the sweetest, loveliest co-actor one could hope to work with, especially in your first outing as an actor. She said to me, 'Your rawness is your strength, don’t try and act like you know it all.’ You will forever be in our hearts Reema ji," the statement said.
