Dhanush completes 15 years this July in the Indian film industry. The National Award-winning actor has already ventured into Hindi cinema with Raanjhanaa (2013) and Shamitabh (2015). His next release will be the Tamil film, Velaiilla Pattadhari 2, opposite Kajol in July. Before that, Dhanush embarks on yet another journey. The actor has already begun filming his debut Hollywood project, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, in Mumbai.
Dhanush can be seen in khaki pants, a blue jacket and mustard scarf – most likely his costume in the upcoming film. The international production, directed by Ken Scott, is being filmed around what looks like the Fort area of South Mumbai.
The project was first announced in 2016. Initially, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Marjane Satrapi was said to be in the running to direct the film, before Ken Scott was finalised. The adventure-fantasy film is based on the best-selling first novel by Romain Puértolas called 'The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe', published in 2014.
The novel told the story of a 38-year-old fakir who cons his village in Rajasthan to send him to Paris in order to purchase a bed of nails from an IKEA store. Along the way, he meets several eccentric characters who take him on a grand adventure.
Actress Berenice Bejo, known for her roles in The Artist (2012) and The Past (2015), is will star alongside Dhanush in the film. The Oscar-nominated actor from Captain Phillips (2013), Barkhad Abdi, has also signed onto the project.
The film has just begun filming in Mumbai and is also expected to be shot in Paris, Brussels and Rome. No release date has been announced as yet for the film.
