Box office: Sarkar 3, Meri Pyaari Bindu register dull opening weekend

Baahubali 2, on the other hand, continued its amazing run and touched Rs425 crore.

Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar 3 and Akshay Roy's Meri Pyaari Bindu, produced by Yash Raj Films, opened to poor numbers on Friday. The films earned Rs2.10 crore and Rs1.75 crore respectively. Their low numbers were maintained in the next two days.

Sarkar 3, which is the third film in the Sarkar series, earned Rs2.25 crore and Rs2.50 crore on Saturday and Sunday, and interestingly, Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra starrer also scored the same numbers on the two days, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The first weekend total of the Sarkar 3 and Meri Pyaari Bindu stand at Rs6.85 crore and Rs6.50 crore respectively.

The budget for the Amitabh Bachchan starrer is said to be over Rs30 crore while Meri Pyaar Bindu is reportedly made at Rs22 crore. With such weekend totals, even recovering the cost of production appears to be a steep climb for both films.

The year has been very dry for Hindi cinema as far as box office is concerned. Now, all hopes rest on Half Girlfriend and Hindi Medium, which are all set to release this week on 19 May.

On the other hand, the Hindi version of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion has continued its amazing run. The film has earned as much as Rs41.50 crore in its third weekend.

It has thus broken another record set by Aamir Khan’s Dangal, which earned around Rs10 crore less in the third weekend. The current total of the Hindi version of Baahubali 2 now stands at a staggering Rs428 crore!
