Social entrepeneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, on whose life the film is based, stopped by the sets and met the actor and the director.

Twinkle Khanna seems to be a real hands-on producer with her first production Padman (2017). Khanna was present on set, when Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who is the inspiration for the film, and his family came to visit the cast and crew.
She shared the exclusive photograph with her Twitter followers, writing, “On the set today with the real and reel life Padman and our brilliant director Balki.”

Arunachalam Muruganantham, with his wife and daughter, is seen in the photograph, holding a clapper board, alongside the smiling Twinkle, Akshay Kumar, and R Balki. He invented a low-cost sanitary pad making machine which has created awareness of more hygienic practices and lowered the taboos surrounding menstruation in rural India.
Khanna’s husband, Akshay Kumar, steps into the shoes of Arunachalam Muruganantham in the film directed by R Balki. This is the first time the actor and director are working together.
It seems as Arunachalam Muruganantham has given his official blessings to the upcoming project. In April, Amitabh Bachchan shot a cameo as himself for the film; actresses Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte are also featured in the film in key roles.
