Sanjay Leela Bhansali's reimagining of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's 1917 novel Devdas first screened out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who's now a Cannes regular, made her red carpet debut in a golden yellow Neeta Lulla sari with the international premiere of the film.
Now, 15 years later, she is set to present the film again at Cannes for its 70th edition. Since 2004, Aishwarya has represented L'Óreal as its brand ambassador and will showcase the film on 20 May as part of L'Oréal Paris Open Air Cinema. This year L'Oréal is celebrating their 20th anniversary with the prestigious international festival as its official beauty brand.
In a statement, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a former jury member at Cannes in 2003, said, "We attended the festival not just as artistes but as proud representatives of Indian cinema, and showcasing a film that meant so much to us. The kind of reception we got for the movie was truly overwhelming and I will cherish it all my life."
This year's Cannes Film Festival will be held from 17 - 28 May. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is set to attend the festival (and walk the red carpet) on 19th and 20th May.
