Through her Sikkimese film, the actress and her production house Purple Pebble Pictures has a bigger vision for the state of Sikkim.
Priyanka Chopra: If money was my goal, I wouldn’t be producing regional films

Priyanka Chopra is trying to bring about a revolution in Indian regional cinema through her production house Purple Pebble Pictures. She has produced films in various Indian languages — Bhojpuri, Marathi, Punjabi, Sikkimese, Konkani and Bengali.
But being a well-known Hindi film actress, it was always expected of her to venture into Hindi film production too. Well, the time has come. Priyanka will produce a Hindi film in collaboration with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, with whom she had worked in Mary Kom (2014).
While talking to a publication, Priyanka said that money had never been her goal while producing films. “I think with my heart and not my head. I am instinctive but not impulsive. And money is not the end goal. If it was, I wouldn’t be producing regional films whose reach is limited. It’s so much easier to make money as a Hindi film producer. But we are still a small company and new as producers. We still have a lot to learn,” she said.
When asked whether she would pen a script in the future, she added, “I’m not that talented. I love writing. I’ve worked with the most talented writers in the world — in Hindi cinema and on Quantico. I don’t have enough knowledge yet, but I am overseeing the screen writing process.”
Meanwhile, Priyanka’s Sikkimese film, Pahuna will be dubbed in Hindi and will get a pan-India release. It is also the first Sikkimese film shot entirely in Sikkim.
Dr Madhu Chopra, Priyanka’s mother and co-producer, spoke about their bigger vision for Sikkim. “We are trying to start a film industry there. Sikkim is a beautiful, 100 per cent eco-friendly state. We got a wonderful story based on the hardship faced during the Maoist struggle by three children. The story was enough reason to explore this uncharted territory. The Sikkim government has been quite helpful,” she said.
Recently, Priyanka’s production house also signed an agreement with the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) for promoting tourism in Assam.
