Super Singh starring Diljit Dosanjh is the first Punjabi superhero film, but Tiger Shroff has already played the first Jat superhero in A Flying Jatt (2016) that was produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures. Kapoor is also producing Super Singh.
The trailer for Super Singh was launched last evening and thankfully, Super Singh doesn’t don the loud outfit shown in the motion poster.
Dosanjh is seen sporting an orange turban and a superhero suit with the emblem of a lion on the chest and no cape.
The trailer looks fairly similar to A Flying Jatt with the protagonist being a goofy, jovial guy, whose theatrics fail to impress his love (played by Sonam Bajwa) or anyone. It takes a bullet from a thug to make Singh realise that he is indeed gifted with some powers.

Comparisons with A Flying Jatt are natural, but what is likely to set the two films apart is Dosanjh. Dosanjh is gifted with a child-like innocence and that’s aptly reflected in the Super Singh trailer. It’s evident from the scene where a shy Super Singh humbly requests Bajwa's character to step aside before he jets off into the sky.
The film is set in a foreign country. What strikes you about the trailer is the special effects, especially Super Singh lifting a huge ship out of the water. We are not introduced to the villain, so director Anurag Singh should be complimented for keeping that suspense.
Apart from Punjabi audiences, Hindi film audiences will also await Super Singh in theatres, given his rising popularity in Bollywood.
Super Singh will be released on 16 June.
